Geocaching with Kids in Sacramento CA

While doing research for Trailmix.Net, our family actually took up the sport of Geocaching.  With two children under 5 (and one on the way), we have found that Geocaching is an excellent outdoor activity for families.  In the short time that we have been doing this, we have found parks, landmarks, and interpretive trails within 20 miles of our home that we didn’t even know existed. We have been tracking some of our activities using the bookmark function on Geocaching.com and have organized our favorite Sacramento area caches into two categories:

Big Caches with Toys:

Easy access, easy finds, and buckets of toys.  If you live in the Sacramento area and are planning to introduce a young child to the sport, any one of these caches will work fine.  If this were fishing, going after these beauties would be analogous to taking the kids to the secret pond where you are guaranteed some action within a few minutes of arriving.  Link is Here.

Educational Caches:

Find a great cache and learn something too.  We started this bookmark list to archive caches that have educational context.  Link is Here.
